- Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 4, 1900.
- Sang on street corners in New Orleans by age of 9.
- At 18 years of age, he began playing the cornet full time.
- Pioneered a new type of music called jazz.
- Switched from the cornet to the trumpet in 1924 and began his "trademark" performances of singing and playing trumpet.
- Toured Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Europe where he played for England's King George VI.
- Worldwide popularity ad musical genius earned him the title of America's Ambassador of Goodwill.
- Died at age of 71 on July 6, 1971 after a highly productive and popular musical and jazz career of approximately 60 years.
